On 4 February 1890, New College was founded by Rev. Arthur Robert Stephenson in Box Hill, Victoria. Seeing the potential in the semi-rural setting and being relatively undeveloped at the time, Stephenson established the school as a boys’ day and boarding school. There were few students initially, but gradually the School grew, offering a broad curriculum that included sports, arts, and academics, emphasizing the holistic development of each student.
In 1929, under Methodist Church oversight, the School moved to a new location on Gwynton Park in Station Street, which offered more space and a better environment for growth. During this period, the School became co-educational, offering a family-like atmosphere that attracted many students from local and rural areas. In the post-war years, the School shifted toward more progressive education approaches, and in the 1970s, it became co-educational again, offering a diverse and inclusive environment for all students. Over time, Kingswood College evolved into a comprehensive institution known for its holistic educational approach, preparing students for both academic and personal success.
In 2023, the College welcomed Chrissy Gamble as its 17th Principal. Under her leadership, the School has continued to evolve, defining its culture into the five values of Perseverance, Excellence, Respect, Courage and Kindness, establishing a vision to embolden hearts and inspire minds.
